Historically music has always been about communication, thus its subjects have expressed the needs of our societies. However there is more to existence than the human world. A Praying Mantis is an obscure and fascinating being that communicates in complex layers of frequencies far beyond the reach of the human ear. When Marius met the Mantis on a beach house terrace on the outskirts of Athens, they suddenly experienced a shared curiosity about each other. What societal need does this fulfill? Could we make music for insects?

Dave and Marius met in Athens when focal drummer, producer and engineer Gustav Penka recruited them for what became the first 'Forest Binary' record (Fortune Cut Records 2019). Amongst the many other performance and recording gatherings of this group Dave also invited Marius to perform and record for Agile Experiments Athens (yet to be released).

It wasn’t just the shape of each other’s body that propelled their collaboration. In the thick of Covid-19 European summer restrictions, having taken on the job of editing and post-producing the 2nd Forest Binary record, the two bounced audio files back and forth through the internet between a Greek beach house and a flat in Berlin. Through this process they would find themselves often leaving the path of solely completing the task at hand. They would extract small parts of audio, recycle them and use these as spawn for fresh compositions.
